The most important pursuits in life

Do you know what you want
I certainly don’t, but I am getting close to knowing 🙂

I asked myself, if I had all the money in the world, if I had all the time in the world, what would I really want to do. Travel, read, spend. Then what.

Ok, maybe I could do that on repeat forever 😀

But I don’t have infinite money and I definitely don’t have infinite time. I will be old someday, sitting toothless in an armchair, my body barely able to move. When I look back that day, at my time on Earth, I want to feel satisfied.

Fortunately, there are still years left to get to that state, so I found myself tracking back to ask “How do I want to live my life”

Quite easily, the answers came to me. And they will come to you too – there are only a few pursuits that are truly meaningful. In my case, they are:
Health
Relationships
Some money
Spiritual growth

I want to be in good health. I want to live close to my loved ones. I want to be financially and physically independent. I want to have meaningful strong relationships with my daughter and a few people worth my time and a few laughs & happy memories along the way.
Most importantly, I want to learn and grow as much as possible in my pursuits of the spiritual kind.

Your list may be different than mine. But once you have this guiding light turned on – the question of how you should be living your life becomes crystal clear!

Anything outside of this list is just a distraction. whether to keep them or not is your choice.

Having said this, It’s not easy staying on course even with the path clear. I have struggled with this myself for long. Distractions, FOMO and peer pressure creep in un-noticed and begore you know it, you are back in the rat race!

If you find your self in this situation too, here are few pointers that may help:

Know where you are headed
Whether you work backward or forward – chart the trajectory that you broadly want your life to be on. Sit down and see where you are and where you would like to be.
This is just a starting point. You need to keep revisiting your plan and path as circumstances change.

See it happening
Get into details and visualise. Call it daydreaming if you want, but really feel the glow of having achieved your goals.

When you get into details you push yourself to understanding what is it that you are really after.
As an example, I used to see pictures of wooden cottages in a forest and dream I want to live like that one day. When I got down to details, I realised, for want of warmth, friends and (medical care!) I probably want a cottage, but in a community or at the edge of a forest and not in the middle of it!

Plan for it
Start planning for what you want with complete belief and faith. Plans don’t always workout but what the heck! Isn’t it better than not planning at all? Plus you can always recalibrate.
Plan the money, relationships and all the practical aspects needed to make your day dream come true

Start with it
Get started on it. Don’t wait. You don’t know if there is a tomorrow. The only certainty is today, or now. So each day, do a little towards your goals. The compounding benefits will start showing sooner than you think!

Here’s what keeps me busy
For my mental health

  • I meditate everyday
  • I maintain my peace and calm as far as possible

For my physical health

  • I eat consciously
  • I workout 4 days a week
  • I practice some essential yoga
  • I move around as much as possible

To cherish my relationships

  • I spend some time each morning with my parents, with coffee, conversation, listening and chores
  • I make sure I keep my phone away when I receive my kiddo from school. I spend the next hour around her, talking, helping with home work or just being available in case she needs me. The phone stays away.
  • I chat with my dear friends often and check in on them. Its not always easy to meet up, but we try to catch up over common interests like trekking, travel or so

For Some money

I have a detailed financial plan. It’s an excel sheet that tells me how much money is flowing in and out of my pocket. It also helps me understand how much I need over the next years to make sure I am able to meet my financial goals to take care of myself and my loved ones.
Most importantly – it tells me HOW MUCH IS ENOUGH. This is turn helps me keep calm and unperturbed in the face of peers achieving great financial highs

Spiritual growth
This is tricky to bring up. But let me go about this post as honestly as I can.
I believe there is a circle of life. My ultimate goal is to reach a level of perception that I can see the matrix and escape it for good.

That’s a mix of terms that will hopefully reach out to many of you reading this post.

Vague as it is, I have to trust the process and have faith the steps will get me closer to the goal. So each day involves a bunch of reminders and actions that form the process I have prescribed myself. More on that later if you would like to know!

What I am trying to get to, is this one truth – Unless we understand what we want and work towards getting it – we will end up wandering aimlessly through life. One day when we look back, we will wish we had taken a moment to consider this when we had the time. So let’s take charge and live a fabulous life!!

If you made it to the end of the post, I hope you will take the time to reach out to me and let me know where you are in your journey..

Stay happy!

Until next time,

Cheers!
